Background of the Study
Rural development is essential for sustainable growth and poverty alleviation, especially in areas like Dekina Local Government Area (LGA) of Kogi State. Governmental accounting plays a critical role in ensuring financial accountability and the effective allocation of resources toward rural development projects. Proper accounting mechanisms ensure transparency in fund management and prevent resource misappropriation. However, challenges such as lack of transparency, corruption, and ineffective monitoring systems have impeded rural development in Dekina LGA. This study explores how financial accountability within governmental accounting influences rural development outcomes in the area.

Statement of the Problem
In Dekina LGA, rural development projects often face delays and inefficiencies, which are linked to poor financial accountability practices in governmental accounting. Inadequate tracking and reporting of funds hinder the effective implementation of development initiatives, leading to unmet community needs. This study seeks to examine the role of financial accountability in improving the success of rural development projects in Dekina LGA.

Aim and Objectives of the Study
The aim of this study is to explore the impact of financial accountability in governmental accounting on rural development in Dekina LGA, Kogi State. The specific objectives are:

  2. To identify challenges affecting financial accountability in governmental accounting for rural projects in Dekina LGA.

  3. To recommend strategies for enhancing financial accountability to improve rural development outcomes in Dekina LGA.
